Lois’ love for yoga arises out of her intensive practice and study spanning two decades.  Lois’ natural gift for teaching led New York Magazine to name her one of the city’s top teachers.  Her classes and workshops are both engaging and informative, founded in her belief that we learn by doing.  Yoga is a lifetime practice, and we are all always students of this vast tradition!

Lois began practicing yoga as a teenager, and resumed her studies as an adult.  Through daily classes at Jivamukti Yoga Center with Sharon Gannon and David Life, Lois received grounding in yoga that was both spiritually rigorous and physically challenging.  Lois then spent a decade practicing Mysore-style Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga under Eddie Stern of Patanjali Yoga Shala in New York and Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India.  In 1997, she met John Friend, founder of Anusara Yoga.  Lois credits John with transforming not only her yoga practice but her whole outlook on inspired living.  She has spent close to a thousand hours studying under, practicing with, and assisting John Friend. She is a Certified Anusara Yoga Teacher and now serves on the Anusara Yoga Teacher Training Committee, where she helps shape the path toward Anusara certification.  Lois has also spent hundreds of hours studying yoga philosophy under Professor Douglas Brooks, a world-renown scholar of Hindu Tantra.

Lois has been sharing yoga with students in public classes and workshops in New York City and the Hamptons for more than a decade. Nationally recognized for both her advanced practice and the depth of her teaching, Lois travels to offer workshops, retreats, and programs for teachers internationally. Her classes weave the flow of vinyasa-style yoga into the exquisite alignment and inspirational message of Anusara yoga for an invigorating and uplifting experience bound to make you shine!  She also offers private lessons for those with physical or scheduling challenges.

Before devoting herself to yoga, Lois was a professional writer and editor and an internationally exhibited artist.  She received a B.A., magna cum laude from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from Princeton University, where she taught literature and writing.  Lois is especially grateful to the fine teachers of these universities, who taught her to express her intelligence through her heart.
